This 4 Day / 3 Night safari experience will take you to the wild side of Africa within the safe comfort of a fenced Safari Camp. On your first day you will travel in a minibus to the South African Homestay where your hosts, Mike and Jacky, will welcome you with a Sundowner drink as the sun sets and a hearty traditional South African dinner.
After an early breakfast on the go, you will road trip your way through the famed Kruger National Park in the minibus en route to the campsite in Manyeleti Game Reserve. On your first day in transit, you will be enthralled with herds of elephant, giraffe, various antelope and so many more creatures of Africa in their natural, untainted habitat.
At camp you will enjoy totally unpredicted game viewing in an open safari vehicle, viewing exceptional game - nothing is impossible to see, yet it is all totally unpredictable, in this enthralling Safari environment. Everything happens as nature unfolds. The evenings and dinners at camp will be enjoyed under the stars around the fire reminiscing about the days exhilarating game viewing experiences.
You will be met by your Safari host ,Jacky, at Yolo Coffee Shop in the International Arrivals Terminal at OR Tambo Airport after your flight lands. The 3 hour journey to the South African Homestay will be broken with a lovely lunch stop ( for your own dime). Once settled in your rooms in Jacky's home, you will jump on the back of the pick up and head out for celebratory Sundowners and an outdoor walk in South African nature. Upon returning to the Homestay homestead you will freshen up to feast on a hearty homemade, South African dinner.
An early start with "breakfast on the go" boarding the mini van to head to and through the famed Kruger National Park. Today will take the form of a road trip - stocked with road snacks and drinks, while game viewing from the safety of the minivan. Alighting from the vehicle in the Kruger Park is only allowed in the allocated camp areas. The splendor of Africa as it was, in times gone by, will be revealed today as we seek out herds of African species, living, as they always have, in the original African landscape. A brief stop at the main Kruger camp, Skukuza for souvenir shopping and a quick toasted sandwich and coffee ("second breakfast") will launch game spotting in earnest. Traditional South African lunch menu options (on your own dime) will be available at Tskokwane Rest Stop. The afternoon will be interspersed with incredible game sightings as we head towards our Safari camp at Distinctly Africa, where we will arrive as the sun is setting.
A 5:30AM wake-up, calls for a Bush sunrise you will never forget. Warm up with coffee and rusks before climbing aboard the open safari vehicle to head out for a game drive at the break of dawn. Bring your snuggies (jacket, beanie) for the chill in the winter months and a light jacket and sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen for the summer mornings. Be prepared to be astounded as the authentic African Safari, under the guidance of your game guide and tracker, unfolds for you today.
You will be welcomed back to Distinctly Africa Camp with a hearty breakfast/brunch to fill the spot. The afternoon is yours to relax or nap or swim until high tea at 3h30 pm. Thereafter heading out for the afternoon/evening Safari experience which will take you into the evening where your guide will seek nocturnal African species for viewing. Dinner will take the form of a lantern lit, traditional South African Bush Braai (that's barbecue for those in the rest of the world) under the Milky Way as never been seen before. Mayeleti is afterall the African name for "Place of the Stars"!
Your last morning on your safari adventure will commence with an early game drive. This will be your last chance to seek out any animals you may have missed. We will share a delicious breakfast spread before boarding the mini van for a somewhat lengthy journey back to Johannesburg. A perfect time to go through all your pics and pick out the best to share with your RY friends who missed out on this awesome opportunity.
This 6 hours trip will be split by a lunch stop ( on your own dime) in Lydenburg at On-Da-Go - a small casual, family business serving fresh wholesome fare daily. Depending on time constraints, this can be eaten casually or as a take away. The stop ensures the long drive is in more manageable installments.
Drop off will be at the appropriate terminal at OR Tambo airport where you part ways with your host, Jacky, and head back to the Mother City for more adventure!
Tipping for guide and staff is typically 10-15% or more if you really enjoyed your experience!
We'll be sharing double occupancy rooms. Roommates will be organized once sign-ups are complete. For special roommate preference, let us know on Slack. Accommodation in the homestay will be shared rooms with shared bathrooms in the farmhouse. At camp, rooms will be shared between two people in an en suite Rondawel (traditional African round house)
