About the Program

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry authored the famous book Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince), about the journey of a pilot and a prince. We value the lessons of the tale; exploration leads to growth, whereas narrow-mindedness leads to peril.

Write your own story of adventure on Remote Year Exupery. Start your journey on the Mediterranean and discover three contrasting cities within Europe. Wander the medinas of Marrakesh, then hop continents and eat pho on a busy Hanoi street. Make sure you experience the different sides of Asia, including the beauty and tradition of Kyoto, before you cross the globe one more time. Your journey will culminate in Latin America, where you can practice your Spanish with new friends and celebrate the journey alongside your Remote Year family.

The Itinerary

September in Split, Croatia

Split enjoys an iconic status amongst Croatians, known for its dramatic coastal mountains and turquoise Adriatic waters. Stroll down streets that have been lived-in for thousands of years and admire the balance between traditional and modern times. From picturesque sunsets to world-class beaches, Split invites you to live in the beauty of the moment and to catch a glimpse of the real Dalmatian life.

October in Prague, Czech Republic

"Prague is beautiful (...) the city is large, cosmopolitan, and distinctly European. I thought (...) that it would be small and manageable, but everywhere I turn there's a restaurant I want to try or a festival happening or another museum, beergarden, park, or church to explore. I also thought the food would be heavy and fried, so I've been surprised at the number of brooklyn style coffee shops, vegan restaurants, and Indian, and Vietnamese food places. The restaurant downstairs serves juices, acai bowl, and aloo gobi sandwiches, and the brewery down the street serves zucchini noodles and carrot chowder. Our workspace is a former embassy and feels regal. We have a library, a sprawling garden in the back, a yoga room, and a neighboring park. (...) Everywhere you turn -- local area, tourist area, historical area, run down area -- is beautiful and has a past." — Aashima Kapoor, Remote Year Kaizen, 2017-2018

November in Lisbon, Portugal

Welcome to Lisbon, a city rich in history, beauty, and good vibes. The sun shines 290 days a year and the temperature rarely drops below 15 degrees Celsius, making it pleasant any time of the year. Here you will find a vibrant contrast of tradition and innovation that creates a unique atmosphere ready to charm you at every turn.

December in Marrakesh, Morocco

"Morocco is a country as complex and beautiful and challenging as any other in the world, and it deserves to be thoroughly explored with an open mind. After almost 90 days on the road, and another 275ish left to go, Morocco has pushed me outside my cushy comfort zone in the most consistent of ways." —Cassie Matthias, Remote Year Magellan, 2016-2017

January in Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi, like its people and its cuisine, is a complex and vibrant mix of many different flavours: romantic yet chaotic, home to frantic traffic and a slow coffee culture, and embedded with an entrepreneurial and creative spirit that is contrasted by a stubbornness about preserving its historical values. Unwrap the many layers of this city, from its mouthwatering foods to its local crafts, to discover a new way to look at traditional life and, perhaps, at your life.

February in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Chiang Mai offers a mix of affordability, infrastructure, and quality of life that’s difficult to find elsewhere. You can eat for cheap at street food spots or indulge in gourmet cuisines at upscale venues. Travel + Leisure recently named Chiang Mai the best city in Asia and second best in the world, thanks to its relaxed atmosphere, good food, and historical significance.

March in Kyoto, Japan

When you arrive, you will immediately understand why Kyoto is considered the cultural heart of Japan. As the imperial capital of Japan for over 1,000 years, this compact city is steeped in tradition, history, honor for its ancestors, and a deep appreciation for nature. Kyoto is simultaneously on the cutting edge of modernity and advancement. Said simply, it is unlike any other city in Japan, or the world.

April in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is a fusion of concrete jungle and natural rainforests. It is a multicultural melting pot with three main races: Malay, Chinese, and Indian. The abundance of diversity offers a unique look at multiple cultures, languages, and religions coexisting peacefully together. Discover a smorgasbord of cuisines, traditions, and natural wonders in this little known Asian metropolis that has long served as a cultural gateway between East and West.

May in Santiago, Chile

Santiago is a remote worker hub located in the shadow of the Andes mountains. This destination is bubbling with energy and creativity, bringing musicians, street artists, performers, and culinary masterminds to the city. There’s never a dull moment here, where you have the option of wandering through inspiring museums that define the city’s vibrant arts scene, exploring each neighborhood to get a sense of its unique vibe, or simply taking in the dynamism of a culture on the cusp of a major evolution.

June in Lima, Peru

Lima, Peru is a top culinary destination and one of the oldest cities in the Americas. Flavors, variety, creativity, and tradition await you in this city on the cliffside. From dramatic sunsets to a world-class surf scene, the natural beauty of Lima is sure to captivate. You’ll see a fusion of cultures that offer treasures for every taste. It’s time to live the legend in Peru.

July in Medellín, Colombia

Known as the "City of Eternal Spring," Medellín is the place to enjoy yearlong spring-like weather and immerse yourself in the mountains of Colombia. This valley is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, fauna, flora, and happy, friendly Paisas. Medellín has recovered from one of the most challenging recent histories of any city in the world and is now an up-and-coming hub of creativity, lifestyle, and entrepreneurship.

August in Mexico City, Mexico

Welcome to Mexico City, an impressive metropolis with a kind heart. You’ll find it adventurous and contrasting, yet surprisingly accessible. Chilangos (locals) are extremely friendly, local history is abundant, and food is intertwined with a cultural renaissance. Mexico City is the up-and-coming hotspot of Latin America. From art and healthy living to the culinary scene and urban development, everything about CDMX is so hot, hot, hot right now.

The Bucket List
