Remote Year and it's philosophies are completely inline with how I live my life and how I envision it should be. I am an event planner and specifically focus on professional development and training. Not only am I passionate about helping others achieve personal success but there are several things I want to work on myself this year. I can't think of a better way to grow than to step outside of your comfort zone of home to travel with 65+ strangers.
I get pure joy out of unique experience and as many friends and family know about me, I have a lot of random hobbies and activities I like to do. I love fitness and culture and an immense passion for the arts. I consider myself a “foodie” and wanderlust doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel....every day!
Remote Year is a passionate organization that has revolutionized the work/life balance and a company that continues to grow and strive for success with each new program. The greatest success for me was the ability to work and travel and Remote Year has found a way to bridge the two things that are seemingly so separate. I want to live to work not work to live. My mantra in life is to live with passion and purpose and that is why joined Remote Year.
Wild. Exhilarating. Free
Myself. My main goal out of Remote Year is to step out of my comfort zone and grow personally. I have a fear of public speaking so I am hoping that by continually meeting new people and putting myself out there that this will diminish each day. I am the Co-Chair of Leadership Development for Meeting Professionals International and will be serving on the Board of Directors as the Director of Leadership Development in July. I will be in a role that will allow me to impact so many people professionally and I want to make sure I have the tools I need to do it. I am also learning from people with different backgrounds and experiences and the knowledge I have gained from them is insurmountable. I am trying to spend time with new people each week to see other peoples perspectives. I have a career in event planning sales that I am very passionate about. I am growing my business from afar as well as connecting on a more personal level with my clients, after all who doesn't like to travel. My blog is something that I am most excited for. I want to help other people find ideas for traveling, food and events but it is also a way for me to express myself through writing.
My position is really not a remote role as I am in sales and client facing. I am very blessed to work for a company that supports not only professional but personal development. I put 100% effort into everything that I do so when I approached my boss about the opportunity she knew that I would be able to do this and still be successful at work. We did have to move a few things around and I have colleagues that are taking on some of the things I can't do abroad.
Minnesota and Chicago. I have traveled pretty much everywhere in the states and to many countries in Europe as well as Mexico.
Do it. Whether it is a small weekend trip or a trip around the globe. It will enrich your life more than anything else in the world can do. If you have to quit Starbucks for a year to make it happen, well that's a pretty good compromise.
A better, more compassionate and understanding version of myself. Learning about other cultures and why we are all so different is what makes this world so special.
Because I like to do everything there is no typical day but it looks like waking up really early to work, breakfast, cultural or adventurous local events, snack, soccer, more events, dinner and drinks with friends and working late. Always find time somewhere in there for a dip in the pool.
Growing up in a small rural town in Minnesota I was very lucky that my family loved to travel. We would go on road trips for weeks at a time all over the United States. Those are my best memories.
I think it will allow me to personally connect with my clients right away.
I have the ability to make friends easily and the ability to bring people together. I would do anything for the people that I care about. I am fond of Tim Cahills quote “A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles.” It’s not the years of experiences you have had but the quality in them. I have always been a people person even though I am not an extrovert.
I consider myself an ambivert and have the extraordinary qualities of both the extrovert and the introvert. I have the intuition and can pick up on things that others may miss. I can listen to an entire conversation without saying anything but when I do have something I am passionate about I will talk about it for hours and people can see how much I truly believe in it. My friends have told me that if they want to get a truthful and real answer or want advice they always come to me. I am a very blunt and honest person but not in a way of judgment. I am comfortable in all situations and will find the fun in all adventures.
The Book of Awesome. It's about awesome things so you don't forget all the little things that make life great!
Slack. There is tech support, events and food runs at the touch of a button.
My perfect day would include an outdoor activity with the sun shining on my face, cultural experiences and a beautiful dinner with stories shared between friends.
Anywhere in the world, doing whatever I am passionate about at that time with the love of my life.
Education. Whether it is adult professional development or early childhood education, it is the most important gift we have and what we need to change the world.
Sleeping... I am passionate about too many things so getting everything done with work and traveling can sometimes diminish your sleeping.
Being able to experience new things and not sitting at a desk all day allows you to be more happy and less stressed.
