This Program is named after the Portuguese word Fado, meaning “fate” or “destiny.”

On the Fado Retreat, you'll briefly step away from the hustle of your day-to-day and travel to Portugal's only National Park where mountain ranges meet lush vegetation, rushing waterfalls meet vast lakes, and humankind and nature are perfectly integrated.

On our Cruz Learn & Travel program, you will enhance your Spanish skills while also having the time to pursue professional goals and explore Latin America.

To ensure an optimized learning experience, you will be placed with fellow learners according to your level, and you will be able to customize the level of fluency you would like to commit to.

On this Learn & Travel program, you can expect:

DESTINATION & VENUE

Located just above the Cávado River amidst untouched mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and lush vegetation, Geres is a breathtaking destination surrounded by a nearby beach, national park, and quaint village.

During your retreat, you can greet the dawn with yoga or a run overlooking the vast river and mountains. You can go for a hike in the nearby national park, cool off in one of the rushing waterfalls, or unwind by taking a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool. At the end of the day, relax with your community on the rooftop as the stars sparkle overhead.

You will be staying in a beautiful retreat center overlooking rivers and mountains, just minutes away from a stunning beach and a breathtaking national park. This Remote Year Retreat will have exclusive access to the entire property where you will be able to choose from 4 living options:

DELUXE PRIVATE - own spacious private room with a large king bed, private bathroom, entertaining living room space, kitchenette, and air conditioning/heating
STANDARD PRIVATE - own private room with large queen bed, private bathroom, and air conditioning/heating
STANDARD TWIN - own single bed in a shared room with shared bathroom and air conditioning/heating
DORM - own bunk bed in a shared room with shared bathroom and air conditioning/heating (2-4 people in each dorm room)

The pricing is based on the STANDARD TWIN package which includes sharing an air-conditioned bedroom with 1 other person (each person will have their own bed). You will have options to upgrade (DELUXE PRIVATE or STANDARD PRIVATE) or downgrade (DORM) based on your preference. If you are sharing accommodation, you can specify a roommate or let us match you with someone.

You will be treated to 3 meals a day, all cooked with fresh ingredients sourced from the local area. We will have a chef on-site cooking delicious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners that honor the local culture and cuisine. If you get hungry, we’ll have snacks. Non-alcoholic beverages are included, but there will be a bar on site for those who want to purchase more than water, soda, or juice.

You will have 24/7 access to the workspace which is located in the area you’ll be staying. The space is beautifully designed, open, and welcoming with a mix of locals, entrepreneurs, and foreigners. We have a dedicated space with desks, phone booths, and bookable meeting rooms.

FAQs

What’s not included?

You are responsible for your flight to and from the retreat destination and all visas and travel insurance needed.

How many people will be on the program?

Program sizes always vary, but we usually have between 25-40 people on each program.

Can I bring my significant other or pet?

Significant Other: Yes, we’d love to have your significant other sign up for the program too and have factored that into our pricing for Double Occupancy shared accommodations. You can both book the shared option and share your preferred roommate later.
Pets: We are not able to support pets on programs currently, but we are going to do our best to continue exploring this option and will update you in the future if it becomes viable.

What is the visitor policy?

The community experience is incredibly important for everyone on this program, so we ask that you do not have any visitors during the retreat. If your significant other or friend wants to join, they are welcome to book a spot.

Which airport should I fly into for pickup?

We will be doing pickups from Porto (OPO) airport at 2-3 scheduled windows within the day. We will share exact times during the onboarding process, but expect the window to be around 10am - 4pm.

Can I specify roommates or food preferences?

Yes, after booking, you’ll receive an Onboarding survey to indicate your living preferences, food restrictions, and allergies.

Will I have wifi and space to work?

Yes, we’ll have wifi throughout the property and areas you can be productive in.

Is there parking?

Yes, if you decide to drive, parking is included free for all participants.

What happens if I get sick during the program?

We have access to a local doctor, local health resources, and health services in close proximity.

What’s the weather/seasonality?

We chose this destination because we think it’s a great time to be in this destination. Please keep updated on weather forecasts here.

Is the country safe?

We always work with our safety and security partner, International SOS, to determine the best destinations for each of our programs with your safety in mind.
