What I Took Away from My Remote Year Experience.

5 Remotes weigh in on what they valued the most out of their Remote Year experience (hint: none of them are the same)

When you travel, it’s a given that you’ll learn more about other cultures of the world. When you travel with a Remote Year program however, the majority of our participants have told us they’ve gained so much more than just a global perspective. In fact, most participants' answers have been drastically different depending on what stage of life they are in or how they are looking to develop personally on their program.

We put together a few testimonials for you to understand what we're talking about...

On re-thinking life.

In my early sixties, I didn't think I would be having a mud bath with elephants, riding a cable car over rice paddies, and zip lining through a canyon. But then why not? Every day I am more active and happier and I have been re-thinking work. Life in a cubicle won't cut it for me now!

Kathryn Potruff, Online Course Developer

On finding community and place.

"I had already been working and traveling before either by myself or with a friend, however to know that there was a group that I could join, make friends with, network with, build business with, get inspired by, learn new skills from, all while traveling the world and enjoying it together with this very group, I personally don't think there is a better opportunity out there than this."

Randy Bechtold, Founder @ JRB Sourcing

On learning about themselves.

"My Remote Year journey and my loving new family taught me how to take care of myself; how to be my own star player and biggest fan. They taught me to love myself; to trust myself and my talents. They helped build my self-esteem. They fortified the confidence, peace and strength within me and in others. I couldn’t have asked for a better year."

Jacri Stubbs, Designer & Branding Consultant

On enjoying the work-life flexibility and independence.

“Traveling around the world while working is the new normal for me and has had a positive impact on both my personal, and professional life. Each person has a different experience of RY and it depends on that person to make the most of it. For me, that means not having to worry about accommodations, WiFi and a workspace every month. This frees up a ton of time to actually l i v e in each city. The RY staff does an excellent job of providing a platform to make the most out of your year. Each person has to either take advantage of what is offered, or simply ignore what is superfluous to them.”

Eszter Schoell, Learning Scientist @ O'Reilly Media

On leveraging their career.

"The professional growth I’ve experienced while on Remote Year and working remotely would not have been possible at a typical 9-to-5 production job. I have significantly improved and widened my skill set from client management, pitching proposals and scoping contracts to research, copywriting and design."
